Doppler velocimetry

Abstract

Doppler is used for noninvasive evaluation under various clinical conditions. In obstetrics, it is used to evaluate maternal vessels (uterine arteries) and various fetal vessels, such as the umbilical artery, umbilical vein, middle cerebral artery, and ductus venosus, among others. Its use in the fetal evaluation has been of great importance under different conditions. Studies show that in cases of placental insufficiency, the umbilical artery Doppler has a great impact on the morbi-mortality of the fetus. Doppler is used to evaluate the fetal well-being in cases of growth restriction and preeclampsia, and it can be used in monochorionic twin pregnancies to evaluate cases of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome and selective growth restrictions.
