Abstract
With the increase in globalization, English listening and speaking ability is becoming more and more important, but traditional methods of teaching it are facing difficulties. This study explored the application of intelligent speech recognition technology in the teaching of English listening and speaking. The author conducted a 1-year mixed-methods experiment in five middle schools in China. The results showed that this technology significantly improved students’ English listening and speaking ability and that it is influenced by infrastructure, teachers’ integration ability, and students’ behavior patterns, but the effects varied by region. Problems were observed in technology application, such as limited recognition accuracy and insufficient semantic understanding, which may lead to students’ dependence, teachers’ lack of technical literacy, and data privacy risks. This study provides a practical reference for educators and can help guide the optimization of intelligent voice technology in the field of language education.
