La cárcel y el carcelero de la mujer colonial

Abstract

This paper discuses the problem of the subordinated situation of Latin American colonial woman, since a new and original point of view: her prison and her jailer. The essay tries to demonstrate that colonial woman use to have four wardens: her father, her husband, the clergy and the widow's hunter. They used to utilize four jails to imprison her: the domestic jail (home), the socioeconomic one (poverty), the real prison (with walls and grates) and the ideological one (purgatory). Sometimes, the colonial woman's live was restricted to jump from one prison to an other.
