Abstract

The psychoanalyst Catherine Mathelin-Vanier enhances the psychic needs of the big premature baby, from her clinical practice in the department of neonatal intensive care. This interview gives us the opportunity to encircle better the formation of the thought in the infant from specific assemblies of drives that the first hospital care implies, in a department accompanying the mother and the father. She underlines, with the work of medical resuscitation necessary for the survival of the premature baby, the importance and the conditions of a psychic resuscitation work juggling with the death instinct, the parental functions and the supposed subjectivity of the premature.
