Abstract

High temperature oxygen sensors are finding an increasing use in a variety of applications including control of industrial processes and internal combustion engine operation. In the last few years, several types of oxygen sensors such as Nernst-type electrochemical cells, semiconducting resistive devices, electrochemical sensors based on oxygen pumping and interface-type devices have been developed. This paper covers the operation and characteristics of these oxygen sensors and the properties of the various sensor materials.
