Abstract

The origin and subsequent geologic, tectonic, and paleoceanographic history of the Kerguelen Plateau were the primary topics addressed by scientific drilling during ODP Leg 120 (February to April 1988). This paper introduces the Leg 120 Scientific Results volume. It provides background information on the Kerguelen Plateau, summaries of the objectives for each of the five sites drilled, preliminary drilling results, and brief developmental histories for each site. Refers where appropriate to the more detailed chapters that follow. -from Authors
