Analysis of the scientific production of sustainable tourism in sun and beach destinations, period 2009-2019.

Abstract

Sun and beach tourism is the most attractive modality for tourists when planning their vacations. In this sense, it is necessary to activate research that contributes to the multidimensional sustainability of coastal communities. The objective of this article is to analyze the behavior of the scientific production of sustainable tourism in sun and beach destinations. For the study, a total of 39 documents obtained by means of an equation in the Scopus database during the period 2009-2019 were considered, where unidimensional bibliometric indicators of productivity were analyzed. Likewise, multidimensional bibliometric indicators of author collaboration and keyword co-occurrence were used using VOSviewer software. The results point to medium-sized authors with global collaborative relationships and a sustained growth of publications per year, with English being the prevailing language. In conclusion, the research conducted provides insight into the evolution and specific areas of knowledge in the field of beach sustainability, among which are: Integrated beach management, environmental assessment of beaches, beach certification systems, environmental, social and political conditioning to mitigate the negative impacts of global warming on beaches.
