Abstract

*[Rev. Dr. McCook stated that the occident ant, Pogonomyrmex occidentalis, was in Dakota confined to the bottom lands along the Missouri river. It does not reach eastward of that river in Missouri, & is absent in Eastern Nebraska, though it abounds in the W of that State, & in Kansas does not occur further E than Brookville. The debris collected from the nests contained some undeveloped pods of Dalea alopecuroides, the refuse of the harvesting of these creatures.]
