Abstract

A postulated dibromodihydroorsellinic acid is detd. as dibromoorsellinic acid. This acid is dehalogenated to orsellinic acid by Raney Ni alloy in NaOH. Orsellinic acid is prepd. by Mg Me carbonate (I) carboxylation of orcinol. Related compds. are prepd. by I carboxylations. Syntheses of 3- and 5-chloroorsellinic acids are reported, the former involving a selective deiodination. [on SciFinder(R)]
