Abstract

The vast amount of data generated by many different stakeholders that participate in construction projects poses challenges for information management (Charef, 2022). A single project can generate thousands of documents, such as drawings, specifications, correspondence, contracts, and more (Kiu et al., 2022). Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a key information management approach and solution in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) industry (Mathews et al., 2017; Sacks et al., 2018). Effective use of BIM in construction projects improves information flows and enhances building lifecycle management (Sacks et al., 2018). However, BIM-based collaboration raises concerns about data security, data ownership, legal implications and responsibility distribution in shared BIM models (Sacks et al., 2018).
