Abstract

The objective of this article is to introduce the reader to the new style of relationship between extension agents and farmers. To develop the subject the article defines the concept of system and its different meanings, and considers the traditional style (the "bankarian conception" using the traditional expression coined by P. Freire). After that, the new style (the empowering relationship) is analysed. Empowerment is central in promoting rural development from a sustainable perspective.
