Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the gamma-ray linear and mass attenuation coefficients, half value layer, tenth value layer and mean free path for four shielding materials: aluminium, iron, zirconium and tungsten at theγ-rays emitted from 152Eu, 22Na, 137Cs, and 60Co radioactive sources using NaI (Tl) detector. These parameters for different shielding materials were compared. The results show that tungsten is the best gamma-radiation shielding material among the materials under consideration. The measured attenuation coefficients were compared also with the theoretical values.
