Abstract

The present Brazilian Stratigraphic Code and Guide to Stratigraphic Classification are the outgrowth of a preliminary version published in 1982 by the Jornal do Geólogo, the newspaper of the Sociedade Brasileira de Geologia. Even though they are based on current international stratigraphic classifications, they have been adapted to meet brazilian stratigraphic pecularities. Many Brazilian examples have been chosen to illustrate the proposed rules. The Code and Guide are proposed by the Brazilian Committee on Stratigraphic Nomenclature, appointed by the Sociedade Brasileira de Geologia and accepted as the Brazilian representative in the International Subcommission on Stratigraphic Classification
