Abstract
Within the framework of the quality improvement of the Spanish University system, the study presented in this article focuses on the debate going on the tutorial system at this educational level, and the importance of moving towards a more personalised guidance, based on a holistic approach to guidance. The opinions of experts and professionals working at the University guidance services, as well as those from a big sample of students, have been gathered during the first phase of a research project currently being carried out at the Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education Department (MIDE) of the Spanish Open University (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia) - dealing with several aspects or University guidance-, and which has yielded its first results.
