BALNEABILITY LÁZARO, DOMINGAS DIAS AND PEREQUÊ-MIRIM BEACHES, MUNICIPALITY OF UBATUBA-SP, COMPARED TO URBAN PHYSICAL AND SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTAL ENVIRONMENTS

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of study was to evaluate the main factors that negatively affect the bathing ability of beaches located in the municipality of Ubatuba, North Coast of the State of São Paulo. Theoretical background: Beach sand sanitary conditions and marine waters intended for primary contact recreation is a public health concern. In this context, evaluating the balneability conditions of beaches, and relating them to land use, public services, such as sewage and garbage collection, and the beaches geomorphology is relevant. Methodology: To carry out this study, were used data on bathing conditions and streams that flow into the sea on the Perequê-Mirim, Lázaro and Domingas Dias beaches, as well it was carried out an analysis of the healthiness of these beaches. Maps were created using data from the demographic census. Results and Conclusion: The results obtained showed that the number of homes, type of use of these homes, sewage system used, environmental management practices and the geomorphological characteristics of the beach are the factors that negatively affect bathing on the three beaches studied. Research Implications: This study advances in the knowledge beaches balneability of important tourist interest and can help in management the quality of waters intended for primary contact recreation. Originality/Value: This study highlights the factors that contribute to the beaches balneability of important tourist interest. Its results can help in decision-making by public authorities.
