Abstract
The functions of psychologists working in the educational system differ from country to country, and so does the name of the profession. The author discusses the professional status of educational psychologists from an international perspective. The Spanish term 'orientación educativa' does not explicitly refer to a psychological profession. This may have consequences for training programmes and for the functions practitioners are expected to fulfil. The necessity of legal regulations, and the contribution of international associations to the standards in the field of educational psychology are discussed. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
