Construction of geomorphological symbols for detailed mapping in GIS

Abstract

Nowadays, the environmental issue is urgent; thus, it is necessary to survey and analyze the characteristics of the relief, substrate for human settlement. The aim of this note is to present construction techniques in GIS software (Geographical Information Systems) of the symbologies used in detailed geomorphological mapping. Using free software (QGIS 3.20.2), a set of symbols was created and made available online. The techniques described allow the construction of other symbols, based on adaptations of the procedures presented in detail. As a result, the symbols overlaid on digital orthophotos are presented in order to illustrate the results that can be obtained with the symbols elaborated in software.
