Abstract

We hardly ask ourselves "why are we still Freirean?", nor do we suspect that the answer to that question may no longer be pedagogical. The fact is that the ideas of Paulo Freire, throughout their history, went through a major process of institutionalization, ranging from a kind of "personality cult" of the master, reaching his enthronement as Patron of national education or as a reference for federal public policies. This article seeks to show that this institutionalization corresponds to the slow loss of the subversive substance that characterized it - what I call "paulofreireanismo" -, moving towards the constitution of a secular theology.
