Abstract

The aim of this paper is to give a broad outline of the history of research on presupposition, from Frege's pioneer works to current research in dynamic semantics. The paper presents a synthesis of the approaches proposed by the most representative authors and tries to show in each case how the problems considered and the theoretical framework adopted relate to each other.
