Abstract

Nasal polyps are soft tissue growths that develop from the nasal cavity and/or paranasal sinuses. Like chronic nasal infections, allergic reactions, and chronic inflammation of the nasal cavity are counted among the primary sources of the development of nasal polyps. Nasal polyps are usually benign, but they can cause nasal congestion and smell disorders. They can also rarely cause serious complications. Nasal polyps usually cause symptoms such as nasal obstruction, nasal discharge, headache, facial pain, loss of smell, and nosebleeds. Nasal polyps are usually treated with medical treatment options, but surgical options such as endoscopic sinus surgery are also applied. In addition, precautions such as regular nasal hygiene, prevention of allergic triggers, and avoidance of cigarette smoke can be taken to protect from polyps and prevent recurrence. This section aims to shed light on many significant issues related to nasal polyps, to provide data on recognizing symptoms related to polyps, to gain knowledge about treatment options, and to prevent recurrence.
