Abstract

Biochemistry is as much a quantitative subject as qualitative. Initial observations of single- or multi-cellular organisms have given rise to our discipline, which is the discovery and characterization of the chemistry of all living things. We have moved from Lavoisier's seminal observation of respiration as a form of combustion, to a much more detailed knowledge of the associated biochemistry.
