Abstract

This study analysed relevant articles from Scopus and Web of Science databases to summarise the present and future directions of technology in agriculture. This was carried out because of the continuous development of new technology that is changing and improving global food production of the agricultural sector. To determine this, a systematic literature review was employed, based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis statements (PRISMA). The analysis identified five primary technology categories and 19 different types of technology as well as the infrastructure used in the agricultural research. Even though, the result shows that technology has advantages, yet element of drawbacks and limitations were also determined. The study found five benefits and six potential weaknesses of technology in agriculture. Modern technologies like precision farming, data analytics, and automation boost productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. Technologies can help farmers manage resources better, reducing waste and environmental damage. The outcome of the present study can be used as a guide to future research and policy initiatives of technology-driven sustainable farming, as well as to identify research gaps and predict future agricultural technology.
