Thermoluminescence properties of Li doped TiO2nanoparticles synthesized using co-precipitation method

Abstract

In the present study, lithium (Li) doped titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles were synthesised by chemical co-precipitation technique using titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as a precursor materials and lithium fluoride (LiF) as a dopant. The formation of nanocrystalline structure has been characterized by powder X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) for structural and morphological properties. The synthesized TiO2: Li nanoparticles were annealed at 450 °C and 800 °C. The annealed compounds were irradiated with gamma radiation ranging from 10 Gy to 10 kGy. Thermoluminescent (TL) and dosimetric characteristics of TiO2 and TiO2: Li nanoparticles have been studied using Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) reader. The TL glow curves of TiO2 and TiO2: Li nanoparticles have been evaluated for different doses of gamma irradiation. The TiO2: Li nanoparticle shows higher TL response in comparison with TiO2 nanoparticles. The more detailed analysis along with results and discussions are presented in this paper.
