Abstract
The article analyzes the basics of strategic thinking in international relations, in particular, in the US foreign policy. The author concludes that the US are ready to use force in any part of the world and if necessary - without allies and beyond limits of international law. The US arrange their regional priorities in accordance with suitability in deploying the most advanced armed forces and strengthening military cooperation. In descending order, these priorities are the following: Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The US strategic documents show the certain degree of adaptability to the changing reality. However, as to Russia, a return to the Cold War language has occurred.
