Abstract

Rural development has to be undertaken to have a balanced economy in the country. Rural development cannot be achieved if the people depend only on agriculture. Though agriculture activities are the basic, these operations need to be expanded into related and supporting activities and commercialised to achieve the growth in the economy. Micro entrepreneurial skill plays an important role in the development of local economy. The current paper investigates the reasons for under development of rural economies and how SHG-BLP is trying to accelerate economic development in the rural. It is observed in the study that the women involvement in economic activities through SHGs certainly redistributes the responsibilities of the family which in turn improves the family income resulting into improved rural economy.
