The plagiarism expertise in medical university: Primary results from the academic integrity position

Abstract

Introduction. Plagiarism expertise is an integral part of the educational system, scientifi c activity and quality of higher education. The process of technical examination of some scientifi c works care of considerable time. Modern directions of implement the academic plagiarism prevention are the software examination, optimization of new algorithms, application of online and desktop software with the implementation of academic integrity strategies. The purpose of the article is to some measures to academic plagiarism prevention, based on primary results and experience of Plagiarism expertise from the positions of principles of the academic integrity implementation. Material and methods. The Code of Academic Ethics in LNMU determines the basic concepts, the task of academic integrity, regulates the basic principles of organization and control. According to the Law of Ukraine «On Higher Education» and acting orders, some norms and instructions at the university, the Scientifi c Department of LNMU conducted an expert assessment and plagiarism inspection of 5992 scientifi c and methodological works for the 3rd year period. The evaluation of all scientifi c works from the academic integrity position is carried out taking into account the percentage of uniqueness and results of direct semantic analysis. The comparativepedagogical analysis of primary results was conducted. Results. At the university operates some licensed software «Unichek», «Plagiarism Detector Pro», «Viper», «Antiplagiarism.NET», etc. and free-reaching software «Advego Plagiatus» with the use of the shingles method of plagiarism expertise. For technical support for the inspection of scientifi c and educational works in the methodological guidelines of LNMU, references to programs and services for primary verifi cation of scientifi c works for the presence of plagiarism are placed. In 954 scientifi c works of small and medium volumes (15.92 % of the total sample), which are directed to revision, we have affi rmed by violation of the scientifi c communication, some replications and signs of confl ict of interest. Finally rejected (as a result of refusal to revise and negative results of repeated examination) 778 (12.98 %) abstracts and articles. Conclusions. The primary results of the plagiarism expertise from the standpoint of academic integrity. Cause anxiety an increase in the autoplagiates frequency and replication of the results of scientifi c research in articles and theses of young scientists reports. It is necessary to fully inform of employees and university students with documents that determine prevention, examination and establish responsibility for academic plagiarism, specify the procedure for considering appeals, introducing and removing the scientifi c work from the repository.
