Abstract
The Metaverse represents a virtual world intrinsically connected to reality. Its essence lies in constructing a digital space encompassing different media types, merging uniquely with the real world. This environment's innovation and its potential users' attraction to immersive experiences bring countless opportunities for individuals and organizations, as highlighted in the Gartner Group Report on the "Top Strategic Technology Trends for 2023." However, significant opportunities also bring significant challenges. So, in this context, this paper presents the results of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) study focusing on the challenges of using the Metaverse from the perspective of people, processes, and technology. Following Kitchenham and Charters (2007) guidelines, we analysed 55 studies from relevant sources to understand the intricate interaction between human elements, procedures involved, and technology within the context of the Metaverse. This review made it possible to present a comprehensive view of the challenges and obstacles in this field of investigation, offering insights into the quantity and quality of available evidence. The challenges identified in this study summarize the main academic contributions related to using the Metaverse in the last five years.
