Análisis del discurso periodístico sobre población indígena: el caso de Nuevo León, México

Abstract

Through the dissemination of news, the media influence the perception that people have regarding a certain group, therefore, they can also influence the ideologies, attitudes, and behaviors that they have with respect to it, contributing to legitimize and perpetuate certain stereotypes or to counteract them. For this reason, it is pertinent to analyze and understand the discourse of the press in Nuevo Leon about the indigenous population that lives there. Therefore, it is pertinent to know the discourse of the press regarding the indigenous population that lives in Nuevo León. Through a qualitative-documentary study the themes and persuasive strategies that five state newspapers use to address news related to indigenous people were analyzed. The results indicate that the indigenous people are associated only with their cultural expressions or with the problems they have. Therefore, they are represented in a biased way as vulnerable people who experience practices of discrimination, invisibility, infantilization and folklorization, ignoring other characteristics that they also possess and perpetuating the discourses that legitimize these practices.
