Abstract

Protection optional: The title reaction strategy is used to prepare 1,2-diols with complete control of their absolute and relative stereochemistry. The method tolerates free and Me-/Bn-/TBS-protected alcohol functionalities, and its diastereoselectivity is controlled by the stereochemistry of the ligands/catalysts used. Protected 1,2,3,4-tetraols are synthesized by iterative applications of the strategy. Copyright © 2013 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
