Abstract

Cytotoxicity of compounds and anticancer potential from Swietenia mahagoni in the ethyl acetate fraction have been analyzed as health or medicinal food. The study was examining cytotoxicity of active fraction from Swietenia mahagoni seed toward breast cancer T47D. Ethyl acetate fraction was fractionated used cromatography coloum with silica gel as the stationary phase and chloroform-ethyl acetate as the mobile phase and yielded 8 fractions. Determination of toxicity of compound has been conducted through Brine Shrimp Lethality Test. Evaluation of chemical compound was performed by phytochemical assay. Results showed that fraction 2 with LC50 74.30 ppm could inhibit the growth of T47D cell with IC50 of 49.12 ppm. Based on phytochemical assay, fraction 2 consists of alkaloid and steroid/triterpenoid.
