Abstract
Research on early competences left in the shadow the early development of temporal consciousness. This study discusses classic and recent work on the emergence of temporal consciousness in the young child from 0 to 2 years in developmental psychology and in psychoanalysis. The authors try to respect a multidimensional view and to pay attention to the emotional, social and cognitive aspects of the temporal world of the child; they consider it a mosaic of temporal experiments, attitudes and competences that are still fragmented» and explain how the understanding of a coherent and unified time is co-built through interactions with the infant's environment. The role of several factors such as rhythms, interactions, verbalisations, alternation of presenceabsence continuity is discussed. © Médecine and Hygiène. Tous droits réservés pour tous pays.
