Revision of pennantia (icacinaceae), a small isolated genus of southern hemisphere trees

Abstract

Four species of Pennantia are accepted: P. cunninghamii (eastern Australia), P. endlicheri (Norfolk Island), P. baylisiana (Three Kings Islands), and P. corymbosa (New Zealand mainland). The monotypic section Dermatocarpus is maintained for P. cunninghamii, since this species has elevated (not sessile) stigmas and coriaceous (not bony) endocarps. P. baylisiana, known in the wild from a single female plant, is separated from P. endlicheri by several vegetative and floral features, including well‐developed domatia and differently structured stigmas. © 2002 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
