Abstract
This article offers a critical examination of the educational ideas in Amartya Kumar Sen's capabilities theory, one of the fathers of Human Development and winner of the Nobel Prize in 1998. After comparing the role of education in Human Development theory and Human Capital theory, I make an enquiry on educational applications of capabilities beyond socio-economic development, particularly in the relationship between liberty and education, and in educational quality with regard to school diversity.
