Abstract

Polygonaceae Ervas, arbustos, trepadeiras, lianas ou árvores, monói-cas ou dióicas. Caule articulado, nodoso, medula maciça ou fistulosa. Folhas simples, inteiras, alternas, pecioladas, com estípulas concrescidas (ócreas) caducas ou persisten-tes; nervação broquidódroma. Inflorescências tirsos bracte-ados, racemosas, paniculadas ou em fascículos, terminais ou subterminais. Flores bissexuadas ou unissexuadas por redução; perianto 4-6 partido, freqüentemente unido na base, formando um pequeno hipanto, persistente na fruti-Abstract-(Flora of the Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais: Polygonaceae). The study of the family Polygonaceae is a part of the project "Flora of Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brasil". In that area the family is represented by two genera: Coccoloba, with 5 species (C. acrostichoides, C. brasiliensis, C. cereifera, C. salicifolia and C. scandens), and Polygonum, with 3 species (P. ferrugineum, P. hydropiperoides and. P. punctatum). Key, descriptions and illustrations, as well as comments on the geographic distribution, phenology and variability of the species are presented.
