Abstract
Meditation is an act of focusing the mind on positive state, mood, and emotion. Media plays an important role in influencing the mind of a person. There are various forms of media that influence the human mind. Electronic media dominates at present. It is relatively cheap, influential, and effective. Emergence of online TV channels in the form of YouTube, Facbook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. along with the support of cheaper technology, devices, and telecom service providers are indicators thatthe electronic media is dominating. Though electronic media provides a lot of inputs, it also derails many from the path of self-discipline, self-restraint, and self-control. As an individual gathers information of the world around through electronic media, the individual develops a false sense of confidence. This false sense of confidence drives one to be exposed through electronic media repeatedly along with necessary information, and ultimately one wastes time in gathering unnecessary and negative information. The false confidence leads to development of an ego and over-optimism. It is very difficult to drive out unnecessary and negative information and this information keeps on interfering with a person's balance and sanctity of mind. The objective of the study is to understand the role of electronic media in infusing biases in human behaviour and how biases can interfere with state of mind and practice of meditation.
