Abstract
Recent investigations of the NO3 - DMS reaction showed that HNO3 is the dominant nitrogen product. It is argued that this finding can have implications on the NOX HNO3/nitrate partitioning, in particular lowering the NOX (= NO + NO2) concentrations in the remote marine boundary layer. Since there ozone formation is NOX limited, biogenic DMS sources may influence the ozone production on a global scale. Copyright 1997 by the American Geophysical Union.
