Abstract

Benzotriazole (1) on reaction with ethyl bromoacetate followed by hydrazine hydrate yields 1H-benzotriazol-1-acetic acid hydrazide (3), which on treatment with carbon disulphide and potassium hydroxide followed by hydrazine hydrate gave 4-amino-5-[(1H-benzotriazol-1-yl)methyl]-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (5). Schiff bases (6a-6k) were obtained by reacting (5) with different substituted aromatic aldehydes by microwave irradiation method with good yield compared to conventional method. These compounds were characterized on the basis of spectral data and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were screened for antifungal activity using cup plate agar diffusion method against C. albicans. Compound 6d showed the most potent antifungal activity.
