Abstract
The first multiple ship survey of the Gulf Stream Area between Cape Hatteras and the Grand Banks of Newfoundland took place during the period from the 6th to the 23rd of June 1950. The survey was given the code name “Operation Cabot” by the U. S. Navy Hydrogra hic Office which acted as headquarters the planning and operational phases of the survey. The civilian scientist in charge of the technical phases of the program was Dr RICHARD H. FLEMING, Director, Division of Oceanography, U. S. Navy Hydrographic Office.
