Abstract

From the History I learned to the stories of Africa I will teach is a study implemented in the master's degree for teachers (N=38), focused on deconstructing the Eurocentric-ethnocentric-Western perspective in the teaching of Africa. Three objectives were set: to find out whether students have assumed a Eurocentric perspective of Africa, coinciding with the one presented in the official curriculum; to test whether the development of the multimodal training experience promotes students to design a curriculum based on a plural view of Africa; and to check whether they acquire critical awareness of the need to deconstruct the Eurocentric curriculum and build curricular proposals that teach the African continent from a plural viewpoint. The results corroborated how initial teacher training is key to strengthening inclusive societies and the need to commit to social justice, through didactic artefacts that promote the recognition of African and Afro-descendant histories.
