How food secure can British cities become?

Abstract

An accompanying chapter in this book (Van de Valk and Broekhof) has reviewed the gulf between alternative (local) food production systems and global industrial agriculture. This chapter considers the pressures for urban and peri-urban food security and reviews the potential for establishing reliable yield baselines. The implications for localised urban land use strategies are critically assessed.
