Abstract
Relay-assisted network-coding (RANC) automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocols are ARQ protocols that leverage both opportunistic retransmission and network coding for wireless relay networks. This paper studies the issue of efficient network coding at relay for RANC ARQ. We develop a XOR-based with the help of Fibonacci sequence scheme, abbreviated as XOR Fibo. Simulation results show that in terms of relative inefficiency, XOR Fibo has a significant performance gain over a plain XOR scheme. Moreover, the use of XOR Fibo can provide close to the same performance as a random network coding scheme that uses a large field size, with the added advantage of requiring fewer and simpler operations during the encoding and decoding processes. © 2013 APSIPA.
