Moult and its relation to eruptive activity in the bearded reedling

Abstract

Eruptive dispersal of the east Suffolk Bearded Reedling population has been a regular feature of recent autumn seasons and has led to the establishment of new colonies. The author discusses the interdependence of this interesting behaviour with the breeding and moult cycles, autumn weather conditions and potential food shortage due to high population levels. © Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
