New project-oriented reality, innovative technology and model of functional-spatial "Symbiosis": The coworking phenomenon

Abstract

This paper is devoted to the study of the role of coworking spaces as an actively developing market segment in the era of sharing economy, their potential as a special symbiosis of new project-oriented reality, innovative technology, as well as a new form of business and workflow organization. The coworking spaces being an attractive business model, as well as a new culture of creation and functioning of modern environments, predetermine the relevance of the study. This paper includes an analysis of the research and practices for the development of coworking spaces as hybrid spaces and a functional-spatial symbiosis, being the reflection of the actual representation of the environment quality and forms of living of the "network"generation, allowing to distinguish five discourses (organizational and spatial response to life challenges, a new type of production environment and public space form, a special way to enhance the environment, as well as an educational space). This study discusses the multi-functionality and spatial hybrid properties of the environment, as well as methods of coworking functioning, providing new insights about the typology of architectural spaces, principles of their spatial arrangement integrating production, public and recreational areas. The typology of coworking spaces is proposed as well. The distinctive feature of coworking spaces are described, as well as the object-spatial arrangement and environment design.
