Abstract

Indonesia is known as a country that has a pluralistic and multicultural society, because Indonesia is a country composed of various islands whose people are also divided into islands spread across Indonesia. Based on this, the level of diversity of the Indonesian nation is very high, both in terms of religious, ethnic, racial and cultural diversity adhered to by Indonesian citizens in each different region. So this diversity creates social problems in everyday life, social problems such as conflicts between ethnicities, races, groups and religions. Implementing multicultural education values such as democracy, humanism and pluralism is the right way to prevent these social problems. Multicultural education is an educational system that views every student as equal without taking sides and looks at the culture, race, ethnicity and religion of the students. In other words, multicultural education upholds an attitude of tolerance that students must have in the learning process in elementary schools. This is motivated by students, educators and teaching staff having different cultural, ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds.
