Abstract
The practice of Physical and Sports Activity in reintegration processes promotes comprehensive training scenarios for the construction of healthy relationships within the social fabric, presenting itself as an effective tool for working with young people at risk due to gang context. This research aimed to analyze the practice of rugby as an alternative within the social reintegration processes of young former gang members together with the Colectivo Calle, Paz y Respeto of the city of Ibarra-Ecuador. The research employed a qualitative approach based on case study and ethnographic analysis, using semi-structured interviews to collect data. The analysis, coding and categorization of the information was carried out using the MAXQDA software, focusing on three categories: Physical and Sports Activity, Social Reintegration and Identity. The results reveal significant correlations, such as the relationship between social reintegration and opportunities for improvement; appropriate use of free time and mental health; and, the decision to change and opportunities for improvement. It is concluded that rugby is presented as an effective means for the social reintegration of young people at risk, thanks to its potential to mitigate conflicts, regulate violent behavior and instill positive habits such as discipline, respect and commitment.
