Abstract

One of the last texts by a leading Peruvian writerManuel Scorza, one of several Latin American writers to die in the tragic air crash at Madrid airport on 7 December 1983, was born in Lima in 1928. He was imprisoned and forced into exile during the 1950s for his political activity in favour of the Peruvian Indian population. In 1961 he again had to leave Peru after heading protests at the massacres of peasants in the Pasco region. His experiences led him to write a cycle of five novels which explore the epic struggle of the Indians of his country, of which the best known are Redoble por Rancas (‘Drums for Rancas,’ 1977, Secker & Warburg) and Historia de Garabombo el Invisible (‘The Story of Garabombo the Invisible’). Errata List was written three days before his death.
