Abstract

The development of new light-active materials is essential in photoelectrocatalysis, as these materials, along with the system parameters, drive the process's overall performance. Therefore, in this short review, we analyze new trends in mixed oxide photoelectrodes and their application in the treatment of water contaminants. We briefly describe the most common methods of photoelectrode preparation and delve into the properties that have provoked the most interest regarding this technology. Finally, we explore the photoelectrocatalytic mechanism and provide insight into the future of photoelectrocatalysis.
