Abstract

This research aims to prepare and determine the effectiveness of magnetic activated carbon on the adsorption of methylene blue synthesis waste. Magnetic activated carbon is made from the palm kernel shell waste through pyrolysis, activation, and magnetization processes. This research examined the effect of pyrolysis temperature (450, 500, and 550)oC on activated carbon yield and surface area. The molarity of ZnCl2 on the surface area and effectiveness of magnetic activated carbon on methylene blue adsorption capacity. The results show that the yield value of activated carbon occurred at a pyrolysis temperature of 450 by 34.08%, the highest surface area value in the addition of ZnCl2 activator of 0.1 M, and the Langmuir isotherm test is more suitable as a test model on this magnetic activated carbon.
