REVIEW ON ORGANIC FARMING IN NEPAL: A FEASIBLE OPTION FOR AGRICULTURAL SUSTAINABILITY

Abstract

This review paper delves into the potential and possibilities of organic farming in Nepal, evaluating its impact on crucial aspects such as soil health, biodiversity conservation, rural employment, and poverty alleviation while concurrently examining the challenges that impede the widespread adoption of organic practices among farmers. Conducting an extensive literature review, the study highlights that organic farming holds promise in Nepal, owing to its diverse ecological zones, offering opportunities for producing high-quality organic products. However, significant hurdles, including low crop yield, absence of organic certifications, marketing intricacies, and the relatively higher cost of organic inputs, necessitate solutions to facilitate the successful implementation and expansion of organic farming. Organic farming can substantially contribute to sustainable agriculture and rural development in Nepal by implementing pertinent policies, promoting research, and fostering awareness initiatives.
