Abstract
Huang et al. show that active zone plasticity directly encodes sleep need in Drosophila. The active zone master scaffold BRP drives presynaptic upscaling to regulate sleep homeostasis and arousal threshold in a dosage-dependent manner. R2 neurons signal and integrate this global active zone plasticity to tune cognitive functions.
